Life is what you make it. I recently moved from a quiet town in the country to chase my big city dreams. Nothing ever goes smoothly, nothing is ever what it seems, but everyday I am getting closer. I am yet another slightly less-than-average girl trying to find her way in London, and in life.

A Clockwork Orange: "Goodness is something to be chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man"

Charismatic, enthusiastic and extremely well mannered; meet Alex DeLarge, Kubrick’s perfect juvenile delinquent and the sociopathic monster next door. Alex spends his days truanting school but truly comes alive at night when he steals off in search of the old ‘ultra-violence’, lurking in the shadows of the underpass, or beating and raping unsuspecting countryside residents. Spurred on by his favourite, the ‘lovely lovely Ludwig Van’, Alex and his droogs torment the homeless, the vulnerable, the everyday man in search of something to make them feel alive. After bludgeoning a woman to death with a phallic statue, our haunting protagonist is betrayed by his droogs and imprisoned for 14 years.
Seeing his chance to cut his sentence short, Alex eagerly signs up for the new Ludovico technique that promises to rehabilitate criminals in 2 weeks. This behavioural conditioning turns him into the perfect Clockwork Orange; someone who is not capable of violence and becomes an ideologically ‘cured’ robot.
Like Alex, A Clockwork Orange is full of style and shows that when you scratch below the surface of society you might not like what’s lurking beneath. Perverted, visually disturbing and endlessly entertaining, A Clockwork Orange is a mesmerising conundrum with its own sociopathic tendencies. Love it or loathe it, there is something beautifully twisted about Kubrick’s infamous masterpiece, and that in itself will keep your eyes firmly fixed on the screen in its own version of the Ludovico technique.
